Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo is getting personally involved in the drive for technological innovation by auctioning off his own Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, though the auction doesn’t specify what innovation it’s for.

Montezemolo is auctioning off his 599 to support young researchers working on projects dedicated to technological innovation. The auction is also of special significance as it marks the first Ferrari ever to be auctioned online.

The car is powered by the 6.0 liter V12 and features red Rosso Monza paint finish, carbon-ceramic brake system with aluminum calipers, 20 inch monolithic wheels and it only has 3,466 mi (5,776 km) on the odometer. The car has a charcoal leather interior trim with dark grey carpeting and stitching, carbon-fiber inserts in the driver area and the door panels.

The auction winner gets a certificate of authenticity with Luca di Montezemolo’s signature to prove the car was indeed his. It will be handed over along with the car in Maranello after the auction closes.
