The 1,000th Ferrari in Hong Kong on Junk ship
Hong Kong welcomed the 1,000th Ferrari to be delivered into that region last Wednesday’s late afternoon. The 612 Scaglietti One-to-
One entered Victoria Harbor by a Chinese Junk ship called a ‘Huan.’ The handover ceremony took place in a truly unique way. Believed to be a ‘first’ for any automotive company in Hong Kong, the car was presented to the owner, Mr. Didier Li.
Li ordered the vehicle last year, and took possession of it on the boat. The ship is similar in style to the red-sailed Sampan boats seen
in the harbor daily. Company officials, and 65 members of the international media were on hand to witness the event.
Ferrari first sent a vehicle to Hong Kong in the 1960′s, setting an average of only about 25 deliveries per year. But as wealth in the area has increased, so too have the number of Ferrari’s making their way from Italy. The company has sent 115 cars in 2008 and 1,089 cars across the whole Asia Pacific region; Japan continues to be the primary market for Ferrari with 433 cars delivered to clients in 2008, an increase of 15%, while more than 200 cars were delivered in China for the first time, an increase of 20% from 2007 to 212.
