Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. sure has a long and famous history. Borne out of the backwoods of Arkansas, the company founded by Sam Walton has gone on to become one of the most efficient and cruel retailers ever.
At the same time, it’s become the world’s largest company by revenues as well. Maybe some of that “biggest…” mentality has gotten into Sam Walton’s son–Rob Walton’s–head, as he just reportedly ordered one of the most custom, gold laden Ferraris most of us have ever seen.
This may be a rumor, but what else is one of the richest men in the U.S. to do? Even though Wal-Mart is adamant about pinning down suppliers for the lowest costs possible and then passing those savings on to customers, the conservation mentality may not exist that much to members of the Walton family these days. Did Rob Walton press Ferrari and designer Pininfarina for the lowest cost parts imaginable to make this dream automobile? Uh, no–most likely, the exact opposite.
What do you think? Will this beast be seen tearing up the streets of Bentonville soon and will we see nearby highways turned into an autobahn equivalent? Doesn’t that thing look like a 60s-era Chevrolet Corvette? “Save Money. Live Better” is Wal-Mart’s corporate slogan–but does it work for the owners of the company as giving into their wishes without self-control?
