The Ferrari Store of Singapore celebrated September 23rd, 2010 its grand opening with a ceremony attended by Mr. Enrico Galliera, Ferrari Commercial & Marketing Director, Mr. Massimiliano Ferrari, Licensing and Retail Director, Mr. Edwin Fenech Ferrari APAC, Middle East and Africa CEO, and Mr. Teo Hock Seng, Managing Director of Ital Auto Pte who welcomed the guests together with the Scuderia Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.

The 170 square meters space is situated on one level in the spectacular ‘triple towers’ of the Marina Bay Sands Resort. Visitors will discover a wide range of lifestyle and luxury Ferrari products, together with a selection of items dedicated to Ferrari enthusiasts, children and collectors. These include miniatures and models of cars from past and present, a display case showcasing a crankshaft, valves and a piston, and the Cavallino collection of leather accessories and sportswear.

The design of the Ferrari Store Singapore reflects the Ferrari Atelier ambience of the main Ferrari showroom in Leng Kee Road, with furnishings of the highest quality and the combination of soft leather and sleek brushed lacquer. The display concept clearly evokes the dynamic lines of Ferrari’s legendary cars and characterises the story, tradition and spirit of Ferrari not only through the products on display, but also through finishes and materials that typify the two souls of luxury and racing.

The Singapore Ferrari Store will be managed by ItalAuto, which is also the official importer for the Prancing Horse in Singapore. This is the 38th store to open worldwide and it joins prestige Ferrari retail locations around the world, including those in Milan, Rome and Venice (Italy), London (UK), Barcelona (Spain), Athens (Greece), New York (USA), and Dubai (UAE), to name a few. The Ferrari Store development programme includes plans to reach the objective of 60 locations worldwide over the next two years in Europe, America, and the Middle and Far East.

What Ferrari claims to be its largest store in the world with more than 1,000 square meters of single-story floor space entirely devoted to the Prancing Horse company, was officially inaugurated Thursday, June 3, 2010 in Dubai. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by Ferrari drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Giancarlo Fisichella, together with Shafqat Malik, CFO Aldar Properties and Chairman of Fadar Retail, and Edwin Fenech, General Manager Ferrari Middle East & Africa. The Ferrari drivers also performed the now-traditional signing of the store counter. A Ferrari California showcased in the front windows, and right outside the new Ferrari Store, a selection of both new and classic cars was displayed.

Today there was a parade of Ferrari cars that started from Dubai, went to Abu Dhabi through Corniche and ended at the Yas Marina F1 circuit. The parade included nearly 100 historic Prancing Horse models and was opened by a number of new Ferrari Californias.

This event had been organized in collaboration with Al Tayer, the official Ferrari dealer in the UAE and the local Ferrari Owner’s Club.

Located in the prestigious Dubai Festival City Center, the new Ferrari Store was developed entirely by the Studio Iosa Ghini and is as much a homage to the history and spirit of Ferrari’s twin souls of racing and luxury as a straightforward retail outlet. Each area of the Store has thus been carefully designed as a special, once-off space in which shoppers can truly embrace the Ferrari experience.

The Dubai Store will stock a wide selection from the entire range of Prancing Horse products for enthusiasts and fans of the GT cars and Formula 1 tifosi alike. In addition to the display areas, there will also be a lounge, meeting rooms, video projection room and a Photo Gallery with a specially designed lighting system that can host photographic exhibitions. There will also be a fan interaction area, in which tifosi can test their skills on virtual versions of several different F1 circuits. Dubai is the 29th Ferrari Store and joins others in prestigious locations such as Rome and Milan (Italy), London (UK), Barcelona (Spain), San Francisco and Miami (USA), and Macao (China), as well, of course, as Abu Dhabi, where it opened in 2007. The Ferrari Store development program includes plans for the next two openings in Jeddah and Bahrain, and bringing the number of retail locations to 50 over the next two years in Europe, America, and the Middle and Far East. The official opening of the world’s largest Ferrari Store also marks the start of a rich calendar of events planned for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, closing the F1 season.

Felipe Massa in the lead 599XX at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, Spain

It’s been almost a year since the Ferrari 599XX made its first appearance at the 79th Geneva International Motor Show and we’ve seen it quite a few times since. Each of those times has been either in a dealership or on a show floor though and the 599XX has yet to be see in action.

Just ahead of Ferrari’s test of their new Formula 1 car at the Ricardo Tormo circuit outside of Valencia, the 599XX was taken for a spin by none other than Felipe Massa behind the wheel. Massa led a group of seven cars around the circuit, the others piloted by the lucky members of Ferrari’s Corse Clienti program.

Fortunately, we might just get to see the 599XX here in the States, as Ferrari has planned various events in America, Europe and Asia for their most special customers. We’ve included a video of the proceedings after the press release and you can check out the photos from the 599XX’s debut below.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

In addition to unveiling the new 2010 Ferrari F10 Formula 1 car, CEO Luca di Montezemolo used last Thursday morning’s press conference to briefly announce a hybrid version of the company’s 599 GTB Fiorano that will be shown in March at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Though the car at the show will be a prototype, the hybrid 599 is in fact destined for production. The car will be based on technology developed by Ferrari’s F1 team. It is designed by Pininfarina. Rumors of a hybrid Ferrari based on the Ferrari 599 GTB, which debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, have long been making the rounds.

“It has to be the avant-garde in automobile technology. We’re constructing cars with an enormous part of the innovative technology. We’ll present a 599 hybrid in Geneva, which will represent a great path towards the future,” Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo said in Maranello, Italy, at the presentation of the 2010 Formula One Ferrari.

Ferrari filings with the European Patent Office for a “4WD system with hybrid propulsion” were reported last June. Ferrari first disclosed its plan to launch a hybrid to British magazine Autocar also last June, though the company didn’t say when it would first be viewed by the public, but hinted at a release within a year.

The Italian enthusiast magazine Quattroruote first reported last December that the car would be unveiled to the public in Geneva.

At the announcement, which seems appropriate as it was during the 2009 F1 season when Ferrari first began using its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS)-a kind of mild hybrid system of sorts that captures energy normally lost to braking in a flywheel-was used in actual competition… with mixed results though.

The hybrid we expect will be fitted with a rear-mounted electric motor, lithium-ion battery pack and a street-going version of the KERS Ferrari developed for-but has since dropped from-its Formula 1 cars.

A KERS system recovers energy at one of the car’s axles, rather than in the brakes like most hybrids. As used in racing, it can actually be a performance enhancement, allowing drivers a temporary power boost for a burst of speed and also permits the 612 hp engine to shut down at stop signs.

The hybrid system will decrease overall fuel consumption from around 8.7 miles per gallon to 11.75 miles per gallon with the battery being recharged while the 599 is decelerating. That is about a 35 percent savings in fuel.

Ferrari has already produced a car that can run on biofuel. The ethanol-gulping F430 debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January of 2008.

Also at the unveiling of the new F1 car event, di Montezemolo mentioned that the automaker will continue to adapt F1 technology for its street vehicles. Ferrari will also continue to look for ways to improve their car’s efficiency as part of the board’s plan to make the company more sustainable.

It was announced also last week that there is the driving debut of the Ferrari 599XX. Seven owners of the car will have them delivered to Spain’s Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, where they’ll get to drive them for the first time. Upon arriving at the track, the 599XXs will be fitted for their drivers, then the owners will be familiarized with the cars with the aid of individual Ferrari instructors before being let loose on the circuit. Because the 599XX is not approved for any major safety standards, it is reserved for off-highway use only.
