As you probably already know, Ferrari is working on a brand new car, in fact it’s working on two very important cars that might be connected, though we’re not sure. One is a replacement for the Enzo mid-engined marvel, and the other is a fresh 599.

We say they might be connected because the engine could be shared, or at least the block. Right now, it rumored that the engine to be used displaces 6.3 liters, and the naturally-aspirated V12 makes use of direct injection to offer a high level of efficiency. The output of this all-mighty lump is supposed to be a very Aventador-like 700 horsepower, and thanks to German publication Auto Motor und Sport, we can actually hear it.

Currently, it’s expected to debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, though we have no way of knowing just how ready that prototype is. Either way, that monster definitely sounds like it’s worth the wait.

Do you think that this Ferrari will compete with the latest Lamborghini?

Here are the latest spy photos of the Ferrrari 599 replacement, codenamed F152, taken during some tests on public roads as well as the famous Ferrari entrance in Maranello.

As previously reported, the F152 is rumored to forgo a carbon fiber body, like the ones found in the Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren MP4-12C, in favor of an aluminum body structure due to high construction costs and little benefit to performance.

Speculated to carry the name F620, the new front-engine rear-wheel drive supercar will be based on the new Ferrari FF and use the same 6.3-liter V12 engine and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Power output is expected to increase from the FF’s 660 PS (485 kW / 651 hp) to 710 PS (522 kW / 700 bhp).

The F620 is expected to have it world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.

Just a few weeks ago, it was rumored that Ferrari was working on a special edition 599 bearing the name of the great Fernando Alonso. That may still be the case, but if that model does come along, it will be paired with the sports car in these new spy shots. Apparently, Ferrari has developed a special lightweight 599XX EVO just as the original Ferrari Enzo-based FXX experimental supercar had its more extreme FXX Evolution variant.

Taken during the Finali Mondiali event held in Italy, the spy shots depict a 599XX Evolution, or ‘Evoluzione’ as it’s labeled by Ferrari, being prepped before deliveries start to select customers as part of the ongoing Ferrari Corse Clienti (race clients) program.

The program essentially enlists the help of dedicated Ferrari customers who enjoy taking their supercars to the track and provide feedback to Ferrari’s engineering team. Not only does Ferrari organize a number of track day events around the globe for its clients, the automaker also supplies pit crews and technicians to tend to each of the cars.

Unlike the current 599XX, the new 599XX Evo is expected to feature a more powerful version of the latest 6.3-liter V-12 found in the FF and destined to power the 599’s successor–possibly with as much as 800 horsepower on tap.

We can also see plenty of aerodynamic enhancements, including winglets similar to the units seen of Ferrari’s Formula 1 car. In addition to these, there’s a large rear wing, electronic upgrades, uprated brakes and what appear to be new side vented exhaust tips.

You may recall that the current 599XX was the first production-derived car to have broken the seven minute barrier for a lap of the Nurburgring-Nordschleife, posting a time of 6:58.16 earlier this year. You can bet that this latest version will be even quicker, and you can also bet that many of its technologies will appear on the new GT scheduled to replace the 599 next year.

The new Ferrari 599XX Evo will probably make its official debut in March at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned!

Now that Ferrari has launched the FF as the official replacement of the 612 Scaglietti, it’s time for the Italian automaker to wrap up development of the successor to the 599. The car’s replacement was undergoing development in a California shell. What you see here are the first photos that actually give a glimpse of the new car’s shape, dressed in loose-fitting camouflage.

The 599 successor – rumored to be dubbed F620 – will likely be powered by Ferrari’s 6.3-liter V12, churning out over 700 horsepower. Unlike the all-wheel-drive FF, the 599 replacement will continue to use rear-wheel drive, sending its power to the back wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with an F1-style electronic differential. As previously reported, a hybrid drivetrain could also be in the works.

Our sources suggest that the F620 will be much lighter than the outgoing 599, due in part to a larger usage of aluminum in the body construction. As for design, it’s safe to assume that the coupe will take a large influence from the 458 Italia, with some cues from the FF thrown in for good measure. Then again, it’s a Ferrari, so we doubt the finished product will be anything but stunning.

Expect to see more of the F620 as it continues its development testing over the next few months. The car is expected to make its debut at next year’s Geneva International Motor Show in March and could go on sale by late 2012.

Tradition may yet reign for the next Enzo, as Autocar reports Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said that the Enzo successor will be powered by a mid-mounted V-12 and also utilize a carbon-fiber chassis. Though previously reported that a twin-turbo V-8 might be destined for Ferrari’s next super car, it appears the Italian sports car maker will follow a formula similar to that of the last Enzo, and F50 before it.

The announcement of the next Enzo’s powerplant wasn’t the only thing recently revealed about the upcoming supercar. Speaking to Autocar at the launch of the Ferrari 458 Spider, Felisa said the Enzo successor could also make use of hybrid technology. Ferrari already announced its intention to hybridize much of its future lineup at this year’s Geneva show in March, and we’ve seen 599 hybrid prototypes undergoing testing in Germany.

Felisa also told Autocar that the lessons Ferrari learned with its Formula 1 program and the development of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) for racing applications could prove useful in production cars. Still, Felisa maintained that such a system, if employed on a road-going car, would not focus solely on performance, but efficiency as well.

The Enzo successor will sport a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis even though most of Ferraris other cars primarily use aluminum in their structure.

“The using of carbon fiber does not make sense,” Felisa told in an interview. “If you compare what you can get with some part done in composite [with] full aluminum, you are very close in terms of weight…but the cost difference is huge.”

In addition to the weight savings versus cost argument, Felisa also stressed the difficulty of assessing damage to a carbon-fiber chassis after a crash. Whatever technology Ferrari has in store for its next Enzo, as well as the rest of its future lineup, the automaker says it’s focused on keeping its identity intact. Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo told Autocar that an official reveal of the Enzo successor would happen by the end of 2012, but a final name has yet to be chosen.

Would you like the successor to the Ferrari Enzo have a V12 and a carbon fiber chassis?

Ferrari is preparing the world for its first hybrid supercar — and this prototype looks to be solid proof that the project is well under way.

The Maranello firm has been talking about a hybrid supercar since the 2010 Geneva motor show when it unveiled the Hybrid Concept, based on a standard 599. The firm’s goal is to develop hybrid technology to get its fleet average CO2 emissions down to around 240g/km by 2018, a significant reduction from last year’s figure of 310g/km.

Spied testing in Germany, this two-seater looks at first glance to be a ‘cut and shut’ 599 GTO, running as a mule for the all-new 599 due in 2013.

But its red-on-white German ‘pre-registration’ plates give away its identity as a test bed for Ferrari’s hybrid tech. Ferrari prototypes normally wear Italian ‘Prova’ identification plates, but those have been ditched while this prototype is driven in Germany to throw spy photographers off the scent.

Ferrari is keen to disown any knowledge of its hybrid prototype, but the ‘S’ on this car’s plates means it is registered in Stuttgart, home of German supply giant Bosch, which is thought to be helping Ferrari with the engineering and software set-up.

The cut-about 599 GTO body panels are covering up a well finished car underneath, whose details appear to mark it out as a California, Ferrari’s V8-powered coupé-convertible. The California’s headlamps, wheels, chromed wheel nuts, folding metal roof shutlines, brake caliper and distinctive instrument binnacle can all be seen.

However, the revised arrangement of the test mule’s exhaust pipes is an important new detail. The standard California stacks its twin rear pipes on top of each other, rather than two pairs of side by side pipes as seen here.

That may be linked to new routings for the exhausts, dictated by the hybrid powertrain and its space-consuming battery.

Ferrari’s chosen design package for its hybrid sports cars can be seen in its patent drawings. It features two electric motors — a low-capacity one at the front to drive ancillaries when running on electric power alone, and a rear-mounted one rated at 100bhp and 110lb ft — with a pack of slim battery cells spread over the floorpan.

Although the hybrid electric equipment added 100kg to the kerb weight of the 599 Hybrid Concept shown last year at Geneva, Ferrari was confident that its on-road performance was improved, with 0-100mph in 10.4sec, an improvement of 0.6sec. Interestingly, the 599 concept’s centre of gravity — a key factor in determining a car’s dynamic ability — remained the same.

Also under development are a super-fast traction control system that works by reversing the electric motor’s torque rather than cutting engine power, and an ‘electronic torque shaping’ system that feeds in small torque inputs from the electric motor during acceleration. This helps maintain momentum during gearchanges and is felt as a more linear throttle response. The California test mule is likely to be running this set-up.

Novitec Rosso loves to play with the looks and engines of Ferrari supermodels, and the end-results are usually nothing short of awe-inspiring. We first got to meet their version of the 458 Italia at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March, but this hasn’t stopped them from trying to outdo themselves.

Novitec Rosso released a small video of two Novitec Rosso Ferrari 458 Italias at their facilities in Southern Germany. Both are finished in red with black and carbon fiber details. Just as the name suggests, the two supercars are very similar, yet somehow different.

Both carry the same red and black finish with plenty of carbon fiber details, and a number of other cosmetic touches, including a new front spoiler, flaps on both sides of the central air inlet, fender-mounted carbon fiber ventilation louvers, and carbon fiber mirror housings.

The only thing that sets them apart are the three-piece Novitec Rosso NF3 wheels, with one model receiving a gloss black finish and the other receives a scarlet red touch.

As for the 4.5-liter Ferrari engines, they’ve received the same mods as the Geneva model, which means a carbon-fiber airbox, a high-performance exhaust system, as well as an ECU remap. The V8s now delivers 609 hp and a peak torque of 569 Nm, pushing the supercars to a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

The Germany aftermarket specialist has also taken care of the supercar’s interior, installing a special leather/Alcantara upholstery and carbon fiber trimming.

A new supercar is in the works but have no fear, this time it won’t just be another fiberglass body draped over a makeshift chassis and force-fed LS engine. This new supercar will serve as the replacement for the awesome Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, and it’s expected to go on sale late next year as a 2013 model, possibly with a showing at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

These are the first spy shots of a test-mule for the new Ferrari supercar (note, a video of the test-mule already exists), revealing a makeshift 599 body wrapped around what’s believed to a brand new chassis, though some commonality with the 2012 Ferrari FF will be present.

We can clearly see the modified bumpers and temporary Ferrari California headlights but look a little closer and you’ll notice that the bonnet has actually been modified slightly, especially near the front, while at the rear the exhaust tips look to be sitting higher than on the 599.

Despite talk about twin-turbo V-8s and HY-KERS hybrid systems, Ferrari’s popular grand-tourer is expected to feature a more potent version of the direct injected 6.3-liter V-12 engine found in the FF, possibly with as much as 700 horsepower on tap.

And you won’t have to worry about a complicated all-wheel drive system weighing you down like in the FF as the 599 successor is expected to remain rear-wheel drive, though it will likely get Ferrari’s latest seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Aluminum will also remain largely in its construction as full carbon fiber has been ruled out due to economic constraints. There will still be plenty of innovative lightweight construction techniques and you can bet some carbon fiber will be used for many of the car’s components.

One major difference is that the 599 is now grouped under Ferrari’s sports car portfolio (458, 599 and Enzo replacement) and not the automaker’s grand tourer group (California and FF), so expect its replacement to be much more performance-focused.

Stay tuned as we’ll keep you updated as information on the 2013 Ferrari 599 replacement breaks.

At the Geneva Motor Show 2011 German tuner Novitec Rosso release their take on the Ferrari 599 GTO. The release has found its way to the first customer unit. The Germans made a short video showing the silver grey prancing horse parked in the backyard of the tuner’s premises in Stetten in the south of Germany.

The video highlights the design of the vehicle but underneath the body you will find the wonderful package with a twin-compressor six-liter four-valve V12. Maximum power output jumped from standard 670hp to 888hp at 8,400rpm, giving the supercharged sports car a power-to-weight ratio of 1.74kg/hp. The tuned V12 also produces a peak torque, which increases by 242Nm to 862Nm at 6,600rpm.

The Novitec Rosso 599 GTO 888 sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds and from standstill to 200km/h takes just 9.1 seconds. The top speed is well over 340km/h.

Only a couple of days to go for the start of the FF tests by the press, where journalists from all over the world will drive the new V12 Ferrari for the first time on the roads of the Alto-Adige region: two Ferrari four-seaters with four-wheel drive have been taken to the top of Plan De Corones in the Dolomites at 2,350 metres, where a special ice and snow track has been prepared for the cars, located at the start of the vast ski area, where the journalists will test the cars under fierce conditions.

The cars have been taken to this area, which can only be reached by the ski-lifts, with a CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter from Viterbo’s 1st Regiment Antares and the help of three Agusta 205 helicopters from the 4th Regiment Altair from the Italian air force in Bolzano. The cars were loaded into the transport helicopters and flown around the Dolomites, before they were carefully unloaded. In this much-anticipated event, with headquarters in Brunico, almost 200 journalists from the world’s most important publications will participate over the next four weeks. After the great feedback generated by the FF at the Geneva car show now this revolutionary 12-cylinder from Ferrari is finally debuting on the road.
