Another great video from Evo’s archive, this time Editorial Director Harry Metcalfe drives a Ferrari Enzo to the south of France. This is not any Ferrari Enzo, mind you, it belongs to the drummer of Pink Floyd, Nick Mason. The car was also featured on Top Gear a few years ago. Here Harry gives you an in-depth look at the Enzo, and shows you stuff that you won’t see in a normal road test. It’s pretty cool.

As you probably already know, Ferrari is working on a brand new car, in fact it’s working on two very important cars that might be connected, though we’re not sure. One is a replacement for the Enzo mid-engined marvel, and the other is a fresh 599.

We say they might be connected because the engine could be shared, or at least the block. Right now, it rumored that the engine to be used displaces 6.3 liters, and the naturally-aspirated V12 makes use of direct injection to offer a high level of efficiency. The output of this all-mighty lump is supposed to be a very Aventador-like 700 horsepower, and thanks to German publication Auto Motor und Sport, we can actually hear it.

Currently, it’s expected to debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, though we have no way of knowing just how ready that prototype is. Either way, that monster definitely sounds like it’s worth the wait.

Newfoundland is a bit of a funny place. It’s the easternmost point of the North American continent, has its own half time zone, was the last province to join Canadian confederation (having existed as a British colony until 1949) and has its own linguistic dialects. It’s also the kind of place where you can fail upwards, it seems. Particularly when driving a customized Ferrari Enzo.

You may recall the story of one Zahir Rana, a Kenyan-born exotic car dealer and enthusiast based in Calgary, Alberta, who took his 860 horsepower Edo-modified Enzo to the 2011 Targa Newfoundland rally and promptly drove it right off the road and into a tidal river on the Atlantic coast. Some $100,000 in damage was reportedly caused to the million-dollar supercar – though we wouldn’t be surprised if the final figure were substantially more – but that hasn’t deterred Rana, or his friends, from returning.

Having lived to tell the tale of his epic crash, Rana has shipped the Enzo back to Germany for repairs and had his Enzo’s V-12 engine further tuned to a mouth-watering 950 horsepower, and is reportedly planning to bring it back for the 2012 Targa Newfoundland. Which strikes us as a particularly headstrong and determined way to get back on the prancing horse, so long as this year’s rally goes a little more smoothly for Team ZR Exotics.

Rana, who has been collecting cars for 30 years. In fact, as he told the Winnipeg Free Press, this experience isn’t going to deter him one bit. On the contrary, he considered it to be so much fun that he intends to push even more.

“It have me another thing to live for”, said the Canadian in a telephone interview. “Gee, this was so much fun I’m going to do it again. Gonna go bigger, better next time.”

“All my friends and clients are now envious”, said Zana who claimed that many fellow racers would join him. “Next year, I’m going back again with 20 cars. It should be great. I’m looking forward to it.”

Tradition may yet reign for the next Enzo, as Autocar reports Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said that the Enzo successor will be powered by a mid-mounted V-12 and also utilize a carbon-fiber chassis. Though previously reported that a twin-turbo V-8 might be destined for Ferrari’s next super car, it appears the Italian sports car maker will follow a formula similar to that of the last Enzo, and F50 before it.

The announcement of the next Enzo’s powerplant wasn’t the only thing recently revealed about the upcoming supercar. Speaking to Autocar at the launch of the Ferrari 458 Spider, Felisa said the Enzo successor could also make use of hybrid technology. Ferrari already announced its intention to hybridize much of its future lineup at this year’s Geneva show in March, and we’ve seen 599 hybrid prototypes undergoing testing in Germany.

Felisa also told Autocar that the lessons Ferrari learned with its Formula 1 program and the development of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) for racing applications could prove useful in production cars. Still, Felisa maintained that such a system, if employed on a road-going car, would not focus solely on performance, but efficiency as well.

The Enzo successor will sport a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis even though most of Ferraris other cars primarily use aluminum in their structure.

“The using of carbon fiber does not make sense,” Felisa told in an  interview. “If you compare what you can get with some part done in composite  [with] full aluminum, you are very close in terms of weight…but the cost difference is huge.”

In addition to the weight savings versus cost argument, Felisa also stressed the difficulty of assessing damage to a carbon-fiber chassis after a crash. Whatever technology Ferrari has in store for its next Enzo, as well as the rest of its future lineup, the automaker says it’s focused on keeping its identity intact. Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo told Autocar that an official reveal of the Enzo successor would happen by the end of 2012, but a final name has yet to be chosen.

Looking to find a Ferrari Enzo at a steal of a price? Preferably one without water damage? Then look no further than Dubai where this ultra-rare Ferrari supercar sits abandoned in the sun.

While there are folks in Dubai that can afford to simply toss away a million dollar Enzo, this car, found sitting in a police impound, appears to be one of a growing number of vehicles left behind by people fleeing the country’s strict bankruptcy laws.

With just 400 Enzos ever made (the 400th being a gift to the Pope), this 651-hp V12-powered exotic is destined to be one of the most valuable Ferraris ever.

It must be nice to have so much money to throw an Ferrari Enzo away like it is nothing. Anyone out there that can rescue this poor car from the heat and sand of the impound lot of Dubai?

Those who own a Ferrari Enzo don’t think about bringing it to a tuner because this car is already perfect as it is, but for some reason an American owner wasn’t completely satisfied with his Enzo, so he talked with the guys from ADV.1 Wheels and you can see the result above and below, in the photo gallery.

With only a month to complete the set in time for their event which would debut the car, although they weren’t really sure about tuning an Enzo themselves, the folks from ADV.1 Wheels once again created something amazing. This Ferrari Enzo sitting on a set of ADV5.2SL.

The lightweight model is vehicle specific in terms of design and load rating in order to get the lowest possible weight based on the load rating of the vehicle it’s intended for. In this case the Enzo, however without enough time to engineer them to be as light as they really could be by testing sample pieces for load rating analysis this set was beefed up for safety purposes. However the tuner has done so with the 1 piece version which has shown results under 18 pounds in some sizes / applications such as the Lamborghini Gallardo 18×12 race setup.

This Enzo comes with a nice set of rims and good tires, therefore the guys from ADV.1 chose for a set of Pirelli’s with size 375/20/21 in the rear. The wheel was designed around the massive rear in a 21×13 size with a 20×8.5 front using their 245/30/20. Once the wheel finish was done the tuner added the polished gunmetal lip/matte black center combination for this project as it’s subtle yet at the same time different from what you’d normally see.

The Ferrarri Enzo takes its power from a V12 engine that delivers an output power of 660 bhp and 485 lb-ft torque. This car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, with 217 mph top speed. The Ferrari Enzo features 6-speed Semi-Automatic transmission and the gear shifts can be performed easily and smoothly even at higher loads.

It’s always difficult to see a Ferrari get wrecked. A little more than a week ago, Zahir Rana became a household name after he spun out his monstrously powerful modified Ferrari Enzo into the ocean while he was participating in the Targa Newfoundland race.

Now, new details have surfaced from his facebook page and we’re pleased to learn that the Ferrari Enzo will receive repairs. In fact, they’ll be done at Edo Competition in Germany, the same shop that did much of the Enzo’s past modifications. And what better way for a Ferrari to go than by air transport.

Unfazed, Zahir Rana hinted at the return of the Ferrari at the ‘Race the Base’, a top speed event across an airfield at Cold Lake, Alberta, next year.

Many of you have been following the 2011 Targa Newfoundland here on Autoblog, what with our own Zach Bowman competing. Perhaps you were surprised to find out that rare supercars like a Maserati MC12 and a Ferrari Enzo had entered the demanding race.

Unfortunately, the Enzo has bowed out early after taking a turn for the worse when it lost control and dove into the Atlantic Ocean off a coastal road. The Enzo was piloted (and owned) by Zahir Rana, who also owns ZR Auto exotic car dealership. Ferrari produced 400 Enzos, and of them, Rana’s was one of the fastest that road-legal after being modified to similar specifications as an FXX. It was tuned in Germany to deliver a bewildering 850 horsepower and held a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds.

We were able to get a few quick glimpses of the Enzo with Rana and his navigator, Roland Linder, heading for the ocean thanks to Kia Canada. Kia is also entered in the race and was waiting in anticipation for their Forte Koup to come around the same bend in the road.

Rana has posted a video, which you can find after the jump, that clearly states his disappointment, but also his reasoning and reflection on what happened. He definitely has the right mindset, explaining how things like this happen in racing and he is lucky that he and his teammate were left unscathed in the incident. He also makes a point to sadly say, “It’s only a car, it’s not a big deal.”

We agree wholeheartedly with Rana, but by the same token, having the incident happen to a car currently valued at $1.5 million is like throwing salt on the wound of enthusiasts and car insurance adjusters everywhere.

Being the Ferrari’s most powerful V12-engined production car of all time, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano features a 6.0-liter V12 engine derived directly from the Enzo supercar, producing 620 hp at 7,600 rpm and 446 pound-feet of torque at 5,600 rpm.

Now Ferrari prepares the successor for the 599 GTB Fiorano, code named F152 and has started testing it. Well, you have the chance to see it here, because spy photographers managed to catch it on camera.

Here you can see a a typical mule, under which chopped up 599 GTO body is the new chassis and powertrain. Keep in mind that, the F152 will look nothing like this at all. Powered by a modified version of the great 6.3 liter V12, this one will get direct injection and probably stay rear-wheel-drive only. Power is expected to climb close to 700 horsepower, if not more, and will connect to the rear wheels via the new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

While Ferrari FF is more the family orientated family car for everyday use, the 599 successor will be the true super sportscar thanks to the use of more aluminium and carbon fibre.

So far the real name and details about pricing are still unknown, but expect to debut in 2012 being priced slightly more than the current 599 GTB Fiorano, which cost $320,000.

Ferrari will replace two of its five core models, the 430 Spider and the 599 GTB Fiorano, in the next two years, while adding a sportier variant to its  best-selling model, the 458 Italia.

Here is a look at Ferrari’s future product plans:

458 Italia: U.S. shipments of Ferrari’s best-selling model began in June last year. A freshening is planned in 2014. Ferrari is adding a sportier  variant, the 458 Scuderia, in 2013.

458 Spider: At the Frankfurt show in September, Ferrari will debut the 458 Spider, which will replace the 430 Spider. The powertrain will be unchanged,  while a retractable hard top will replace the canvas top offered on the 430. Sales in Europe begin in September. U.S. shipments follow in the first quarter of 2012.

California: A freshening for the Ferrari  California is planned for 2013.

599 GTB Fiorano: In 2012 Ferrari will replace the 599 GTB Fiorano with a redesigned model still known by its code-name, F152. The new car will remain a two-seat coupe with rear drive and a direct-injection V12 longitudinal  engine mounted in the front. The model will debut in March at the Geneva auto show, with European sales to begin in the summer and U.S. shipments by year end.

FF: The first all-wheel-drive Ferrari debuted in March at the Geneva show, went on sale in July in Europe and will arrive by year end in the States. Ferrari is building 800 units a year of the four-seat FF coupe; production is sold out until the end of 2012.

The FF, which stands for Ferrari Four, replaced the company’s 612 Scaglietti  flagship. The FF is marginally bigger and roomier but at 3,946 pounds weighs the  same as the Scaglietti despite adding awd.

The FF is powered by a new 660-hp, 6.3-liter V12 direct-injection engine that takes the car to 208 mph.

Limited-edition car: The successor to the Enzo limited-edition  supercar is set to go on sale in 2012. The all-carbon fiber model will be  powered with a new, normally aspirated V-12 and will herald weight-reduction and  fuel-saving technologies that Ferrari plans to adapt to its entire range by the  end of decade.

It is unclear how many units Ferrari plans to build. The company built 399 units of the Enzo, launched in 2002, and 349 units of predecessor, the 1995 F50.
