Ferrari F430 SD SU35 by Status Design

Russian tuning firm Status Design has come up with a modification package for the Ferrari 430 that offers more style and power- two things we can’t get enough of.

Dubbed SD SU35 ( this is the name of a Russian fighter jet), the kit upgrades the 430′s V8 from 490 hp to 525 hp through the use of high-flow air filters, a sports exhaust system with a sound regulation feature and an ECU remap. This allows the car to offer a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).

However, for the more demanding customers, the tuning company can install a Novitec Rosso supercharger that places the powerplant in the 700 hp league.

The Ferrari 430 SD SU35 comes with a 430 Scuderia-inspired exterior finish, being dressed in red and wearing two gray racing stripes. The car borrows more from the Scuderia model than just the paint scheme, as it also comes with Scuderia front and rear bumpers. The car rides on Scuderia rims that house a new ceramic braking system.

The tuning company has also fitted a set of exterior carbon fiber elements, including the mirrors, hood, spoiler and sideskirts.

In the middle of a grand restructuring, reports have been announced by Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne at a investor meeting in Turin, Italy last Wednesday. First up was perhaps the most exciting, dealing with product development plans for Fiat’s most prized asset: Ferrari.

According to reports, Maranello currently has a total of six new models or model variants in the pipeline for debut over the next couple of years. The first new variant up for release is the 458 Spider, the convertible version of the 458 Italia that replaces the outgoing F430 Spider. But if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, plans are also underway on project F151, the replacement for the lackluster 612 Scaglietti, a four-seat grand tourer that is destined to feature the first road-going implementation of the company’s KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) hybrid drivetrain.

In 2012 we’ll get to see the most anticipated Ferrari, the next supercar that will build on the Enzo’s fame . Produced between 2002 and 2004 in just 399 units, the Enzo was powered by a V12 engine. No further details have been released about the Enzo successor. The company announced that it will not build more than four standard production models, so that the range will look like today, with the 458, the 599, the 612 and the California. The “new special series Enzo” is considered a distinct model and it is not part of the standard range. In the same year we’re expecting to see a completely new model to replace the 599 GTB Fiorano, code-named F152.

Finally in 2013, Ferrari is anticipated to overhaul the California with a comprehensive update tentatively called the California M, suggesting the difference between the current version and the new one will be similar in scope to the change from the 456 GT to the 456 M and from the 550 Maranello to the 575 MM. Also set for introduction in 2013 will be a hardcore , track-focused version of the 458 to follow in the footsteps of the 360 Challenge Stradale and the outgoing 430 Scuderia which most likely to be named the 458 Scuderia.

Look for both Ferrari and Maserati to make each of their models rather distinct, practically creating sub-brands within the two companies. Sister automaker Maserati is also expected to release two new models, slotted below the GranTurismo, before 2015.

A spy photo of the Ferrari 599 GTO

It’s only a couple of weeks since there was spy photos of the new Ferrari 599-based GTO-and now there have been another example on the roads around Maranello’s factory gates. It’ll be the first official Ferrari GTO sold since the 1980s 288 GTO.

Standing for Gran Turismo Omologato, the 599-spec GTO will produce some 700 bhp from the regular car’s Enzo-derived 6.0-liter V12. Although none of the spec is confirmed yet, early brochures have spilled some of the technical detail and we understand that the GTO will rev to a neck-snapping 9000 rpm.

The regular 599 develops 611 bhp and 448 lb-ft, and the GTO version is tipped to top 500 lb-ft of torque. Make no mistake, this 599 will be fast and furious as the Scuderia spec 430.

The GTO will pack a load of carbon fiber-the roof on this scarlet test car even appears to be fashioned from the black stuff- to bring the weight of the 599 below 1,690 kg.

Stickier tires and a faster map for the F1 sequential gearbox should bring the 0-62 mph time down to some 3.5 sec.

Expect the 599 GTO to receive styling tweaks over the regular model, including aero tweaks and cooling vents.

Later in 2010 there is to be a run of some 500 cars planned. Prices are tipped to top GBP $300,000. Start saving now.

Ferrari Enzo

Down under in Australia the launch of a brand new Ferrari and Maserati dealership in Sydney, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has revealed some of the automaker’s future projects, confirming plans for the revival of the legendary GTO badge as well as the replacement for the Enzo supercar.

Putting the recent global financial crisis well behind it, Ferrari will be launching a number of new models in the coming years, starting off with the brand new 458 Italia. Felisa confirmed this model would be followed by a 458 Spider convertible next year but said there were no plans for a track-focused ‘Scuderia’ version just yet.

He went on to disclose that the 599 Hybrid set for next month’s 2010 Geneva International Motor show isn’t destined for production, although the limited edition 599 GTO is. Speaking with GoAuto, Felisa said early hybrid prototypes are already showing improvements in fuel economy of more than 25% but stressed that the technology is just not ready for production and likely won’t be for another five years.

“The suppliers are not ready. Everything is underdeveloped. There is a lot of work to so. It is not for tomorrow. We haven’t decided when [it will be introduced]. It will be around that period [2015], but not before five years,” Felisa explained. In the meantime, Ferrari will launch milder fuel saving technologies, such as cylinder deactivation, engine stop-start and electrically-powered auxiliary systems to take the load off the engine. The first of these systems will appear in the California next year.

As for the new GTO based on the 599, Felisa said the car “is coming” and in the process revive the legendary three letter badge last used on the 288 GTO almost a quarter century ago. Similar in theory to the 430 Scuderia and the 360 Challenge Stradale before that, the new 599 GTO is essentially a lighter and more hardcore version of the regular V-12 powered 599 GTB.

The story doesn’t end there as Felisa also confirmed the news we have all been salivating about for months-a replacement for the Enzo supercar is in development. He said it will be available in left-hand drive only and designed with all the characteristics Ferrari is famous for, which we can safely interpret as being loud, fast and bursting with Italian flair.

Ferrari 458 Italia

The Ferrari 458 Italia will be priced in the U.K. starting at £169,545, or nearly $277,000.

The price includes a local value-added tax of $41,125, plus a $1,550 “road tax.”

A quick look at the outgoing prices reveals a whopping increase over the $199,000 MSRP for a 2009 F430, but a touch less than the $282k commanded by the 430 Scuderia (whose performance the new 458 eclipses and, it could be argued, effectively replaces). It’s also worth noting that the figures are a bit higher than those suggested in the alleged leaked price sheet from back in October.

Of course pricing for new vehicles around the world isn’t based on current exchange rates, but rather on local market considerations, so until U.S. pricing is announced, it’s more relevant to look at relative prices in the U.K. itself. The £169k 458 Italia is over £40k (~$65k) more than the £128k F430, but a couple grand less than the £171k Scuderia. The California, in case you were wondering, lists at £143,325 on the 2010 U.K. price sheet (which includes all Her Majesty’s tea party taxes)-but we’re still supposed to believe the Cali’s not the “baby Ferrari” we all predicted it would be.

If that isn’t enough, the price for a new 458 only continues to rise from there, with options like LEDs on the steering wheel at £2,794 ($4,563), Alcantara trim for the trunk at £1,445 ($2,360), electric seats at £2,120 ($3,462) and finally for a spare wheel-£1,156 ($1,888).

Ferrari Enzo replacement artistic impression

The Ferrari Enzo successor is codenamed F70 or FX70. It seems that Ferrari is planning to shock its fans by replacing the V12 engine with a V8 engine boosted by a turbocharger or two. Sources indicated that Ferrari is developing a V8 and V12 option. The turbo V8 with a staggering 710 hp seems to be winning more points over the naturally aspirated V12 engine which could produce in excess of 800 hp.

The information is not coming from Ferrari, but through a ‘very reliable source.’ So that leaves room for doubts. However, the source is a valued customer and a prospective owner who was contacted by Ferrari seeking his opinion. Upon inquiring what sort of engine the car is going to have, the reply mentioned that it might be a V8. The company also clarified that the engine will not be plagued with turbo lag, which is often associated with turbocharged engines that make it dangerous in the hands of a novice driver. The car will incorporate many of the latest developments in the Ferrari F1 car and also the FXX experiment.

What does this say? It appears Ferrari is getting back to the times where the F40 had a turbo-charged engine. So it will be some kind of mix between the Enzo and the F40 engine setup.

A test mule wearing the body of the current 430 Scuderia was recently spotted being tested.

We will therefore have to wait until 2012 to see what the Italian car maker has come up with.

Ferrari is reportedly readying a high-output version of its already impressive 599 GTB Fiorano. The high-performance model is said to be based on the 599XX show car that debuted at last year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Whereas the 599XX was designed as a hardcore racer for the track, the new 599 model-believed to be named the “Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition” after the 250 GTO of the 1960s-will be a racecar for the streets.  Although a bit softer than its show car-counterpart, the 599 GTO will sport plenty of added performance, following in the footsteps of the 430 Scuderia.

At the heart of the 599 GTO will be an up-rated version of the base car’s 6.0L V12. The 599 GTO will be closer to 700hp (522kW). In addition to the added power, the 599 GTO will also shed about 150lbs (67.5kg), making for an all-out performance machine.

No official word on when the 599 GTO will finally surface, but a unveiling at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show seems likely. The price is speculated in the $380K range with production being capped at 500 units.

Novitec Rosso Ferrari 430 Scuderia Edizione 747

If you think that the idea of a tuned Ferrari is crazy? Then the new 430 Scuderia from the German tuner Novitec Rosso is even crazier. It’s called the Edizione 747-not to be confused for the Boeing jumbo jet, but for its 747 hp twin-supercharged V8.

The 430 Scuderia is one of the fastest Ferraris of all time, but that didn’t mean Novitec Rosso would leave well enough alone. The company bolted on two superchargers, allowing the 4.3-liter V8 to pump out an extra 239 hp and an extra 194 lb-ft (268 Nm) of torque. In spite of the power, the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time is three-tenths of a second slower than a stock Scuderia, but the top end jumps 20 mph (32 km/h) to 218 mph (351km/h).

To help control the power, Novitec Rosso added some impressive rolling stock to the car. The diameter of the wheels surpasses the production wheels by one inch. The three-piece 20-inch NF3 double-spoke wheels in sizes 8.5Jx20 in front and 12Jx20 on the rear axle are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires in sizes 245/30 ZR 20 in front and 315/25 ZR 20 in back. The rims are mounted to sport springs that drop the ride height by 30 millimeters. To lend the Scuderia better suitability for everyday use Novitec Rosso offers an innovative hydraulic lift system for the front axle. At the push of a button in the cockpit the front is raised by 40 millimeters. It allows drivers to safely navigate parking ramps, low curbs and speed bumps. After safely passing over the obstacle, another push of the button returns the suspension to its original position. If the button is not pushed the front end returns to its original position automatically once the car reaches a speed of 50 mph (80 km/h).

Novitec Rosso adds sporty and exclusive highlights to the interior of the Edizione 747. The Supersport steering wheel features a combination of leather and carbon-fiber and offers a perfect grip. Its flattened bottom also makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier. To complement the steering wheel Novitec Rosso offers carbon-fiber shift paddles. They are longer than their production counterparts and make manual shifting of the F1-SuperFast2 transmission even easier.

In addition, upon customer request Novitec Rosso equips the modified coupe’s interior with the gray and yellow theme colors to match with the exterior. To complement the outside finish they installed black tailights, side markers and reflectors.

Novitec Rosso will only be making three examples, which will be just enough to keep a few speed freaks adequately busy until the new 458 Italia comes around.

Buying a Ferrari is not cheap, but if you are dreaming of getting a hold of the new 458 Italia, you’d better know what you’re getting yourself into, and this is our first real indication. Thanks to a leaked document in Dutch has found its way on to a Ferrari fan forum ( http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260024 ), the new V8 supercar will start in Europe at 162,900 euros, before any taxes are taken into account. At today’s exchange rates, that figures to about $240,000 in U.S. dollars, around halfway between the price of the outgoing F430 and the 430 Scuderia.

Of course, that’s not an official figure-Ferrari North America has yet to confirm pricing for the U.S. market-and the long list of options sufficiently demostrates that the $240k starting price is exactly that: a starting price. On to that you can add leather everything, special paint finishes, upgraded wheels and more-most if not all of which you can already check out in the online configurator on the Ferrari website.

Considering the 458′s newer, more promising racing-derived performance technologies, and its splendor-dare we say passionate-classic Pininfarina design, it’ll likely all be worth it in the minds of prospective buyers.
