Last Sunday, the 18th of December, was the one day of the year in Maranello that was all about the children at Ferrari. Today was their party, the Kids Christmas, a traditional event which takes place every year over the Christmas period. This year it was held in a special area set up in the Fiorano track’s steering pad, featuring games, attractions and theatre performances with all sorts of events aimed specifically at the youngest members of the Ferrari family.

Over twelve hundred company employees and their families attended the party, the children receiving gifts from some rather special Father Christmases such as Scuderia Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Jules Bianchi, Marc Gene, Andrea Bertolini and Davide Rigon and others from the Corse Clienti, including Gimmi Bruni and Toni Vilander. On stage with them were Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Team Principal Stefano Domenicali and they took the opportunity to make yet another appeal, reminding everyone this is also the weekend of Italy’s marathon television charity event, Telethon. The non-profit making organisation’s main aim is raising funds for research into curing muscular dystrophy and other genetic illnesses.

Ferrari has launched the Ferrari 458 Spider convertible in Japan. Ferrari F1 drivers Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso were present and drove in a white colored car on stage instead of red which is usually connected to the Italian automaker.
There has been many releases of new automobiles at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show including the Ferrari 458 Spider. Ferrari has stated the specifications and pricing details, and the Ferrari 458 Spider is supposed to cost around $257,000 US dollars.
The convertible is equipped with a V-8 with a displacement of 4.5 liters, yields a net output of 570hp and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,000rpm. The Ferrari also features direct fuel injection and a seven speed dual-clutch F1 gearbox to transmit power to the wheels.
Ferrari is known worldwide for its high performance and the Ferrari 458 Spider does not disappoint in this regard. The convertible can attain a maximum speed of 198mph. The Ferrari 458 Spider also has amazing acceleration that takes 3.4 seconds flat to go from 0-62mph.
Ferrari used the launch of the new supercar to raise money for the earthquake-hit victims of Ishinomaki city in Japan. The charity was a huge success and over $911,100 US dollars was collected and the proceeds will go towards the rebuilding of education institutions that were damaged. Ferrari will be releasing the new Ferrari 458 Spider convertible for sale in other countries as well in the coming months.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest indoor theme park, marks 100 days of operation. The Park opened its doors to the public on 4 November 2010 and has since welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests.

Ferrari hosted a special premiere for the new FF yesterday evening in front of a worldwide audience. The event was hosted by Ferrari’s CEO Amedeo Felisa and Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, who were joined on stage by Ferrari’s SVP of Marketing Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s F1 drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, Piero Ferrari – son of the company’s founder Enzo, Ferrari’s Chief Test Driver Dario Benuzzi and the FF’s road-car development driver, Raffaele De Simone.

Enrico Galliera and Dario Benuzzi presented the main technical details, whilst Ferrari’s ever-charming Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo thanked (literally) everyone and then proceeded to put Ferrari’s drivers on the spot with questions about what they thought of the new FF (the answer inevitably was… Erm, it’s superb! Boss).

Some of the key technical details shared with us during the presentation include;

The Key Numbers which best describe the FF

• 660hp – the most powerful of any Ferrari.
• 3.7 seconds from zero to 62mph – the best in the FF’s class (although they didn’t elaborate just which cars they would include in its class).
• 2.7 kg/hp – again a best in class figure.
• 4 – namely the number of seats in the FF, which are proper adult-sized seats rather than the more typical 2+2 format.
• FF – which Amedeo Felisa described as meaning ‘Ferrari Four’, representing the number of wheels driven and the seating capacity.
• 360 g/km CO2 – which is 25% less than the FF’s predecessor (the 612 Scaglietti) and best in class.
• 800 litres – which is the maximum capacity for luggage achieved by folding the rear seats down (increasing capacity from 450L).
• 6 – the number of exclusive colours developed for the FF only – these include Rosso Maranello, Grey AbuDhabi, Grey Ferramet, Blue American, White Italy, Green Racing.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, last Tuesday, December 30th officially inaugurated Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s first Ferrari theme park, on Yas Island.

Pressing a button in the shape of the iconic Ferrari World Abu Dhabi roof structure, HH Sheikh Mohammed paid tribute to the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “who is keen on turning the UAE into a global magnet of sports and recreational tourism through a diverse portfolio of projects that will have substantial impact on the national economy and social development.”

“The ambitious development projects in progress in Abu Dhabi will help position the Emirate prominently on the global map as a sought after tourist destination. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is a quality addition to our tourism industry which is one of the pillars of our national economy,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

Hosted by Aldar Properties and Ferrari SpA, the event attracted 2000 VIP guests including HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region; Lt. The show – titled Power meets Elegance – was inspired by the history of Abu Dhabi and the story of Ferrari. Seen through the eyes of a young boy, the vision-like story weaves these two strands together to the fulfilment of the dream of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. The two cultures are blended together through an incredible mix of live action, acrobatics, advanced film projection techniques and original music.

The show starts with an incredible aerial dance of the traditional UAE pearl divers surrounded by a 3D marine world projection. The atmosphere then escalates into a magnificent dance of flying dancers and Ferrari engine pistons arriving to the first climax when Puccini’s “un bel di” is sung by an opera singer.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the grand finale which explodes with an incredible series of gigantic projections, flying pearl divers, live orchestra and a unique and amazing firework display that enhances to the rhythm of the music the whole Ferrari World Abu Dhabi building.

Following the spectacular show, HH Sheikh Mohammed toured the park, intermingling with the guests and congratulating the developers for what he termed as an outstanding achievement.

A record number of more than 140 Ferraris travelled across the United Arab Emirates to join the event guided to Yas Island by Abu Dhabi Police. Last month, Ferrari’s 599XX, a racecar derived from the stunning 599, lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany in less than seven minutes. At the same time, the 599 GTO made its debut as the brand’s fastest production car ever.

Last week, those two wild horses welcomed a new stablemate, the Formula Rossa roller coaster. It was bred not in the foothills of Maranello, Italy, but in the Arabian desert.

According to Ferrari, the ride moves from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just two seconds. It also inflicts 1.7 g’s of lateral acceleration through 70-degree corners and tops out at nearly 150 mph (241 km/h), sufficient numbers to take away world’s-fastest-coaster bragging rights from Kingda Ka, the marquee thrill at Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari in New Jersey.

Formula Rossa, designed by Jack Rouse Associates, is the latest attraction at Ferrari World, the multibillion-dollar theme park, heritage museum and resort amalgam opening this fall on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.

“The idea is to bring the sensation to people of what a Formula One driver is experiencing,” said Ferrari World’s general manager, Claus Frimand, in a video on the Ferrari World Web site.

Formula One racing is central to the ride’s concept. Ferrari emphasized that connection by introducing the roller coaster’s train during last weekend’s grand prix at Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya, outside Barcelona, with its two drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. However, where their cars only accommodate one person, the coaster seats eight.

Park visitors are propelled from an air-conditioned loading area to the desert beyond via a 20,800-hp (15,500 kW) winch and reaches a maximum height in less than 5 seconds as it climbs out of the Ferrari World’s main dome roof.

Wayne Meadows, Ferrari World’s director of maintenance, said that passengers would be pulled along a launch area of 400 meters, “very similar in the way a carrier launches a jet aircraft.” Over the 1.3-mile (2.07 km) track, the coaster also tops a 171.6-foot (52 meters) rise and barrels through a series of sweepers.

The dramatic performance mandates certain precautions. Because of the speed and that Abu Dhabi is “subject to heavy sand and dust storms,” Mr. Meadows explained, Ferrari World “made the decision that all our guests will wear goggles.”

At Ferrari World, the roller coaster joins a side-by-side Ferrari F430 race simulator, a free-fall plunge and a flume ride that courses through the plumbing of a 599′s V-12 engine.

Ferrari World is scheduled to open to the public on October 28, ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will run at the neighboring Yas Marina Circuit on November 14.

Naza Italia, the distibutor of Ferrari and Maserati in Malaysia, has unveiled the Prancing Horse’s latest supercar-the 458 Italia-at a Ferrari party with some 400 guests, including the Scuderia’s two Formula 1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. The glitzy party was held at the company’s facility in Petaling Jaya.

Naza Italia Snd Bhd, the local sole importer and distributor of Ferrari cars, is confident the new 458 Italia will draw strong interest from Malaysian enthusiasts given its unique and stylish features.

“It is not about volume. We are fulfilling customers’ dream and deliver the best-of-the-best car for them.

“And talking about Malaysia, demand for this car is always encouraging,” said Joint Group Executive Chairman Datuk SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin when asked about the sales target for the new Ferrari.

“Every time we introduce a new model here, the car is snapped up just like that, showing the big enthusiasm from the local market. We need more (unit) allocation for the car actually as there is quite a strong following for Ferrari cars in Malaysia. Apart from that, we have the largest 4S (sales, service, systems, spare parts) center and showroom outside Italy here at Naza Italia to serve as the ‘lifestyle center’ for its Malaysian fans,” he told StarBiz.

He added that owning a Ferrari car was not about showing off to others but was a status of one’s success in life. The owners’ common interest in Ferrari could also open up more business networking opportunities.

Imported from Maranello, Italy, the sports car has a starting price of slightly over RM2 million with a waiting period of about 18 months. To date, 14 units of Ferrari 458 Italia have been booked.

Speaking to reporters after the unveiling of the Ferrari 458 Italia for the Malaysian market last Thursday, Faisal said: “This car exudes style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology, all in one package.

“Thus I believe, this car is a must have for Ferrari fans and enthusiasts in Malaysia.”

Naza Italia has sold about 23 cars of five Ferrari models, since it was granted the exclusive right in March 2008. The company has been committed in bringing in a comprehensive product line from the F430, 599 GTB Fiorano, 612 Scaglietti, Ferrari California to the Scuderia Spider.

Debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show on Sept. 15, 2009, the Ferrari 458 Italia is an eight-cylinder two-seater berlinetta with a mid-rear mounted engine and represents a genuine break with the past in terms of Maranello’s previous high performance sports cars.

It replaces the Ferrari F430 and delivers superb vehicle dynamics with an ideal weight balance for a mid-rear engine sports car–58 percent rear and 42 percent front.

It produces only 307 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide and has a fuel consumption of just 13.3 liters per 100 km.

To extend Naza Italia’s commitment in providing the highest level of customer care, SM Faisal said the company was offering the Ferrari Approved Pre-Owned Program.

The program is to ensure Ferrari customers that pre-owned cars come with full technical support, including the Ferrari Power Warranty.
