Another great video from Evo’s archive, this time Editorial Director Harry Metcalfe drives a Ferrari Enzo to the south of France. This is not any Ferrari Enzo, mind you, it belongs to the drummer of Pink Floyd, Nick Mason. The car was also featured on Top Gear a few years ago. Here Harry gives you an in-depth look at the Enzo, and shows you stuff that you won’t see in a normal road test. It’s pretty cool.

It’s a misty morning in October. Harry is in Florence, Italy at a friend’s house. He talks about the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta that his friend ordered roughly 12 months ago. It’s one of 80 that has been manufactured. He was going to pick up the SA Aperta at the Ferrari factory in his Ferrari 550 Barchetta. He afterwards describes the features of the car compared to the 599 GTB Fiorano and takes it for a spin.
The Ferrari SA Aperta is powered by a V12 engine that delivers an impressive 661 HP at 8250 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque at 6500 rpm. It can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph.
Watch the video to see what Harry Metcalfe thinks about this impressive car, but we can assure you that he only has good things to say about it.

Ferrari 599 GTO

Chris Harris at EVO had a chance to test Ferrari’s new supercar, the 599 GTO. The GTO is the bigger and badder brother of the 599 GTB Fiorano. The car is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 that comes from the same lineage as the Enzo. Amazingly, the 599 GTO is actually faster than the Enzo and the chassis is 430 pounds lighter than the base 599 GTB, allowing the car to hit 60 miles per hour in just 3.35 seconds with a top speed of 208 miles per hour. There is 661 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque.

Numbers are one thing, but the noise of that Ferrari V12 is just sensational. Harris was lucky enough to go for a drive in the new 599 GTO around the Italian countryside. Life doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks to Harris and EVO for allowing us to hear and see that beautiful new creation from Ferrari.

The cost of the 599 GTO will be around $430,000.

Ferrari 599XX

The Ferrari GTO is back. The last time the famous “gran turismo omologato” name appeared on a Ferrari was on the 1985 288 GTO, but according to some reports, the GTO nameplate could return on a 700 bhp road-going version of the ultra-high performing 599XX race car.

During a recent interview with evo, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa remarked that the company had changed the internal classification of its flagship 599 from being a ‘GT’ car to part of the ‘Sports Car’ division, alongside the newly launched 458 Italia. It’s this change that has allowed the development of a more extreme version of the 599, much in the same way that the Scuderia was developed from the standard F430.

The 599 GTO will effectively be a road-going version of the track-only $2 million Ferrari 599XX and in terms of dynamics will sit well above the current 599 HGTE. Chiefly by raising the rev-limit of the 599′s Enzo-derived 6-liter V12 to 9,000 rpm, power has been boosted to a whopping 700 bhp-an increase of 89 bhp over the standard car.

And with quicker gear changes (down from 100 milliseconds to around 60), expect the 0-60 mph time to drop from 3.7 seconds to around 3.2, while top speed (205 mph in the 599 HGTE), could rise to an Enzo-rivalling 217 mph. Which means there’s a very real chance the 599 GTO could be Ferrari’s fastest ever road car.
